The Oregon coast is renowned for its breathtaking vistas, and our first trip there in 2022 was nothing short of spectacular. As my wife and I savored the rugged beauty of this famous stretch of coastline, we were treated to a truly unforgettable experience on our last night near the ocean.
As the sun began its descent, painting the sky in hues of gold and pink, we found ourselves mesmerized by the unfolding spectacle. Searching for the perfect foreground elements to complement the stunning sunset, my eyes landed on a lone seastar nestled between a set of rocks. In that moment, I couldn't help but express to my wife, "The only thing that could make this scene even more magical is if a seagull were to perch at the top of the frame."
To our delight, just moments later, our wish was granted. A majestic seagull gracefully descended and settled atop the frame, adding an unexpected yet perfect touch to the scene. With the excitement of capturing the moment pulsing through me, I quickly composed the shot and pressed the shutter, immortalizing the serendipitous encounter.
However, as swiftly as the seagull had arrived, it was gone in a flash, clutching the seastar in its beak and disappearing into the fading light. Although I had hoped to capture the entire sequence, including the gull's departure with its prize, my slower shutter speed prevented me from doing so.
Nevertheless, the image I captured remains a cherished memento of that magical evening on the Oregon coast – a testament to the beauty of nature's spontaneity and the joy that can be found in the unexpected moments of life's journey.
